I'm moving tomorrow, to an apartment 3 blocks away from my current place. It's a great apartment. I just have to figure out how to pay for it now, lol. Since I don't have a real job yet, and am still working my student gig doing dorm internet support. But, we got kicked out of our apartment for renovations and we had to go somewhere... so here's hoping that I'm not totally screwed XD

I have taken up skydiving again. This time I'm following through and getting my license. Did 3 jumps in the last 2 weeks, so 22 to go before I get my A-license. Abby, Mike K, and my friend Dave from work are going again on Sunday the 20th. Anyone want to come?? www.skydivetheranch.com

Wooo no chemotherapy for my dad after all. Just a few more years on the same meds.

So, sorry if I've been living in a hole for a while- I was a bit preoccupied.

Abby and I just managed to disperse an entire boxful of dirty kitty litter throughout the two stairways and three hallways of our apartment building. It seems a bag tore when we were taking the garbage out. There were cat turds every couple of steps. Thank god none of the neighbors caught us before we cleaned it up. Just wanted to share that with all of you.

Fuck. I just got scammed for the first time since I came to NY. I'll take the risk of looking like a gullible idiot, and share the story in case anyone else runs into the same thing:

I go to the F/V stop on 6th Ave and 14th, to see that all the turnstiles are blocked off with that bright orange netting stuff that usually means construction. So me and the girl next to me are both visibly exasperated, when we notice a guy in an MTA uniform just inside. He opens the service door and says something about how they're just about to close the platform, but we can go ahead and come through. Now, when MTA employees let you go through the service gate for whatever reason, half the time they tell you to not bother swiping your card, and half the time they ask you to- so I usually just go through and only swipe if they say to. Well, this guy LETS ME walk a good 15 yards and then starts yelling at me "EXCUSE ME!!!!! You didn't swipe your card, WHY DIDN'T YOU SWIPE YOUR CARD? Jesus, don't people know to swipe their damn cards?? Give me your card, I'll do it!" So I do (*facepalm*), because he's pretty angry, and he's standing in front of the turnstile so I can't reach it, and jesus, he's wearing the uniform so I don't even think about it. He swipes the card and hands it back to me, and I don't realize until 6 hours later that my $80 monthly pass is now a $2 paid card. (If you're not from here- they look the same. You can't tell the difference til you swipe it in a turnstile.) I paid for it with a debit card so I can get it cancelled and refunded- I'm only out the $2 that I'll have to pay to get to work tomorrow morning, but shit.

So yeah, if an MTA "employee" tries to browbeat you into letting him swipe your card for you, you should insist that he step away from the turnstile so you can swipe it yourself. It seems obvious, but you forget common sense when people set you up to feel stupid and then yell at you.

OMG new kitty! His name is Mako. Jack hates him, but will get over it in another day or so, if past patterns with him stay the same.

Woohoo, got a new job at ResNet, which is the NYU internet service. I'll be doing tech support type stuff. I am friends with my boss, Frank, and I got the job by telling him that he should hire me while were at bubble tea. I did have to go to a real interview (not with Frank) though, and I worked pretty hard on tailoring my resume, so it's not complete bullshit.  Of course, this is only for 6 or 7 months and then I will have to find a real job.

I finally bought some AA batteries, so my camera works! Which means I uploaded all the pictures from the last year or so that have been rotting on my camera.

Here is some proof that they eat cats in China. And in Bri's apartment.

Winter break is almost over, I fly back to NY tomorrow morning. Had lots of fun hanging out with my family. Saw my Washington friends a couple times, but they all had to go back to school a few weeks ago, so I've mostly been wasting time and sleeping.

One thing I've been doing with my time is eating up all the feminist blogs on the internet. Be forewarned, this is long as fuck and probably too opinionated:

Also, COSPLAY PLANS FOR 2008:
I'm really toning down the cosplay this year. I'm planning to make just one new cosplay , which wil be worn with my brother at Otakon. More on that in a day or two, when I will post progress pics :)

Other than that, I'm hoping* to go to Katsucon, and that's probably it for cons. I'm wearing old stuff, probably Elite Beat Diva, Talho (Eureka 7, anyone?) and either April O'Neill or Mikuru, both of which I feel kind of ehhhh about and will have to fix up before I wear them again.

*DOES ANYONE HAVE 2 SPOTS IN A KATSU HOTEL ROOM?  Bri and I have both been completely broke and weren't sure we could go until quite recently. Sooo no plans yet. Shit. We are a couple so we can sort of share one sleeping spot if space is an issue. We'll gladly take the floor. Can anyone help us out, or refer us to someone who can? (Re: the being broke thing: We are now sure that we can afford to go, so no worries about us coughing up the money)

I think this is my first livejournal meme. But since Harry Potter fanfic is my favorite thing in the entire world (you've all read this, right?) I guess I have to.

1. Use fanfiction.net's Search Story By Summary and look up your name in Harry Potter.
2. If there are any Mary Sues that share your name, pick the worst-sounding ones and post the summary.

-A little pink-haired demon has stolen the heart of Ron and Fred Weasley. Her name...Ami-Lili! Sound familiar? No? You sure? Grumbles moodily Look at the author's name...

- Amy finds a book. She also gets a boyfriend. But when Amy travels back in time with her boyfriend everything changes.

-When the kids of Hogwarts find out about the PotterPuppetpals site, will there be laughs or just plain wrong anger stuff? And what will happen to the sites two biggest fans, Nate and Amy? Just some random story I made up...

In other news, my cat eats body lotion and likes to sit under running faucets.

This is why you don't sew at 4 am:

I'm working on  my April O'Neil jumpsuit, using a pattern for  pants and a jacket and sewing them together at the waist. The jacket obviously extends well below the waist, so I put it on and mark the waistline. Then I think to myself, "now I will add a seam allowance" and hack off the bottom of the jacket 5/8" ABOVE the waistline, instead of below. Now, this thing is already pretty high-waisted and the pants have already been trimmed to the right height, and with an extra 10/8 out of the waist, we are getting close to an empire-waist jumpsuit, with some sort of Erkel pants going on. Not pretty.

And that's why my jumpsuit now has a waistband.

*cough* I mean I did it on purpose to make the belt loops easier to sew on.

This morning I wake up at Renee's house after a night of sewing.

Mr. Gloger: Hey want a ride to the subway station?

Amy: Sure, thank you!

Mr. Gloger: So what's your major again?

Amy: Psychology

Mr. Gloger: lol my wife is a very important person in your field, want a job?

Well ok it's more like an internship thing, not a REAL job, but still.

Also, Elite Beat Divas are sluts. While sewing the shorts last night, I kept getting confused about what was scraps and what was costume pieces. Very easy sewing though. "Step 4: stitch side seam" ok i'm going to stitch the se- oh look i'm done!

Otakon was pretty cool. Went to a lot of panels, including the prop workshop which gave me an idea of how to use fiberglass! Woo! Also learned some interesting ninja facts and loli sewing tips. I didn't get to see much of anyone except the people in my hotel room, but then I kind of expect that at Otakon. I get really stressed out trying to track people down in crowds that big, so I just focused on events. Wore Mikuru the whole weekend, again, because it turns out moving takes a lot of time and money which would normally go to cosplay. I'll have April O'Neil for DragonCon though, which is when it matters.

My job has pretty much jumped the shark. This LJ entry is being posted during a short break from my shift-long 4chan binge. ...yeah. Other things I got paid to do today: Eat cake, refresh digg.com, go out for coffee, refresh friends page, call landlord, look up fabric stores. THAT'S IT. Except for taking two phone calls, both of which were answered with "Please take a look at the prospectus for that program, and call back if you have more specific questions." YOU IDIOT! WHO CALLS AN ACADEMIC OFFICE TO ASK "UHH... I WAS INTERESTED IN... YOUR PROGRAM?" "Which one?" "UHH..... PSYCHOLOGY?" "[Lists the 7 different Psychology degrees we offer]" "UMMMMMM ... [silence]" Headdesk.

ANext was pretty good. Not much to say about it, really. The con itself was a little lame; there was only one workshop/panel-y thing I wanted to go to, which was the EGL tea party, but the room had reached capacity when I got there so I couldn't get in. Soo the only events I went to were the Hall Cosplay Contest (wooo lots of people), the Masquerade (woooo Furuba people) and Cosplay Chess for mass LOTHT retardation. Was buying a con badge, hotel space and transportation really worth it, instead of Youtubing the best in show skit and seeing pics online? Probably not, but when else am I going to see that many cool people all in one place? So I'm really glad I went.

Hi friendslist!

There are two stray kittens in our yard. Abby and I can't afford another pet right now so we can't keep them. We're feeding them for now, but we're moving in 4 days. If someone doesn't adopt them soon we'll give them to the SPCA, but they're so cute and sweet! You know you want them! Or just one? They seem to be the perfect age for adoption. One is light orange and the other is black and white. Orange keeps trying to keep B&W away from the food- he hisses and swats at him when he tries to eat. So maybe if you have unresolved bully issues, you could adobt B&W and you guys could talk about it. Or, maybe you're into bad boys, and your heart flutters when you think about tough dudes who don't take shit from no one, in which case Orange is your ideal buddy.

Let me know if you want to take one (or both)!

My poor kitten is no longer a man. He had the operation yesterday, and now he's PISSED AS HELL that he has to wear one of those huge plastic cones and be confined to a bedroom until he's all healed. Also, I have discovered that giving pain medication to a cat is quite a conundrum. Cats in pain do not take medicine. Cats need medicine to not be in pain. *Headdesk*

Also, Abby and I are getting ready to move into our new apartment. (Don't have an exact move-in date, but all the paperwork is signed). It is unbelievably sweet. HALF the commute that we have now, same rent, no broker fee, huge kitchen, a bedroom for each of us, and a pretty big living room.

Also, it is about 3 1/2 blocks from the subway station, and although our actual street is pretty quiet, the 3-block stretch between our street and the station contains:
-A natural and healthy yet way-cheap grocery store
-A Loco Burrito, a diner, a Chinese place and a pizza place
-A liquor store
-A laundromat
-2 24-hour delis
-And I think a drug store?

And ok here is the very best thing about it: The L trains have these new electronic displays that say how many minutes it is until the next train, and you can see them from the entrance before you swipe in, and there is a deli directly outside, so you can go to the station and know if you have time to grab coffee and still catch the next train. I think that as long as I have this, I can contract a horribly debilitating disease, fail out of school, and earn the hatred of everyone I love, yet still be happy. Because I will KNOW about the coffee, and that is just so fucking convenient that it makes me cry.

Sitting in the office, safe for now I guess. The elevators were switched off at the top floor, and the stairwell is blocked off with about 15 very sturdy file cabinets. I'm pretty sure nothing can get in. We have a lot of food stashed away for meetings and things. But there's absolutely nothing here for weapons. They can't possibly figure out how to turn the elevators back on, right? So if the barricade holds up we should be fine until this blows over. If they do get in, we have literally nowhere to run. I think we'll be fine though.

Callie already posted about this, but you have to read about it again anyway.

We're having a picnic in Central Park on Sunday the 10th. Anyone who wants to come is welcome! If people are coming from outside NYC, feel free to come over the day before and hang out - I have a couch and an air mattress you can stay on if you don't mind being torn to shreds by my kitten while you sleep.

There is a facebook event for this, but its sole purpose is to keep track of who's bringing what food, so if you you're a complete ass like Kev and don't like facebook, just let me know what you're bringing and it's all good.

So it looks I will be eating nothing but top ramen and miscellaneous dumpster-salvaged things for the entire summer....

BECAUSE HO SHIT I JUST BOUGHT MY PLANE TICKET TO DRAGON*CON!

I am stupid.

Also, I will be cosplaying Mercedes from Odin Sphere and a diva from Elite Beat Agents. And maaaaaybe Inara's ballgown from episode 4 of Firefly, but who am I kidding, I don't have the time or the skill, so scratch that one. Join me?

Oh and does anyone need a hotel room for Otakon? We could use at least two more people.

Haven't posted in three months. Oops, life happened. Here's a summary:

Got a new job doing psych research.

School went really well this semester.

How do you get out of world's end? Do a barrel roll!I agree with the consensus on the internet that Pirates 3 kind of sucked, but not as hard as Pirates 2. However, I went dressed as a pirate hooker with several other pirates and plenty of rum. So the quality of the movie was irrelevant.

Cabincon aka blahblahblah-fucking-suitcase-con aka let's-all-grab-Tom-Weiser's-junk-con was pretty awesome.  Met lots of very cool people, and ran around in the rain. And slept with Renee for 3 nights. Oh baby. I heard that Kev beats women and Ollie has Jews in his freezer. True story.

Also, after gaining everyone's trust with week after week of delays, I am setting the date of the central park picnic for Sunday June 10th. Will talk about details later. That will mostly be on facebook though.
